Inspiring Isle of Iona
We traveled on to the seaside town of Oban on Scotland’s west coast. After spending the night in a quaint B&B we boarded a ferry to the Isle of Iona. In the sixth century St. Columba established a monastery on this tiny island. The Book of Kells may have originated here. Iona is considered to be the center of Celtic Christianity because missionary monks were based on the island and traveled throughout Scotland and northern England spreading their faith.
